Change is inevitable; stress, however, is not.
At Reinventing Independence®, we are here to help individuals discover resilience and inner strength, particularly during major life transitions and challenges. There are times we understand the what, why, and how of creating and adapting to change yet still struggle to make it happen. Leveraging our extensive clinical experience and expertise in occupational therapy and psychology, we empower people of all ages to live well in the face of change.
Through actionable strategies and easy to use tools to regain a sense of control, emotional well-being and competence, we help our clients restore quality in all areas of life, find balance and rediscover the joy in what truly matters during difficult transitions.
This three-part series addresses the common loss of control, emotional well-being and competence many patients feel when living with a chronic, progressive or terminal illness.
Through actionable strategies based on psychology and occupational science and through the use of simple tools, participants will learn how to unlock their potential to think differently, in order to feel differently, in order to function differently and experience life as more than a patient.
Are you a caregiver overwhelmed by the profound and life-changing demands of your new role?
More Than a Caregiver workshop fundamentally shifts caregiving from crisis and chaos to preparedness and confidence. We champion caregiving by providing the tools, education, and framework to anticipate personal, medical, and environmental issues before they escalate into crises and unplanned work absences.
Program objectives include: improve self management skills for balancing caregiving and work life, improve health management skills for decreasing hospitalizations or emergency room visits, and create safe, accessible and functional environments for decreased fall risks and burden of care. This empowers families to regain control, reduce stress, improve care quality, and proactive caregiving with peace of mind and confidence.
Feeling lost navigating the complexities of change around death?
"Life is pleasant. Death is peaceful. It's the transition that's troublesome." Isaac Asimov
The transition from life to death is a profoundly difficult, yet significant, human journey. While life offers joy and death offers tranquility, the period of change is immense for all involved.
Our workshop, led by Occupational Therapy practitioners, Certified End of Life Doulas, and Certified Aging in Place Specialists, guides participants to mentally, emotionally, and physically adapt to life's transitions. The focus of the program is to provide participants with education around before, during, and after end of life needs, preferences and planning. We emphasize creating a dignified and peaceful end-of-life experience.
The intent of this program is for participants to feel clear, calm and confident about discussing and fulfilling end-of-life wishes for themselves or their loved ones.

Looking for a comfortable space for open conversations about change, death and dying?
Kicking the Bucket, an 8 episode podcast created by Andee Kinzy, is about an octogenarian duo with more spunk than spring chickens. She has Alzheimer’s, he has cancer, and they secretly plot to “kick the bucket” before their well-meaning kids whisk them into an old-age home. Only they're not very good at it.
The Kicking the Bucket (KTB) Listening Clubs utilize this immersive dramedy podcast and provide a creative outlet for exploring the difficult topic of end of life. It is a powerful tool for cultural change around death and dying. Its therapeutic and educational benefits enhance participant’s perceptions of aging, elder care, and types of end of life planning. KTB Listening Clubs offer a platform for active engagement through shared experiences around aging, progressive and terminal illness and end-of-life decisions; navigating healthcare settings, ways to more effectively advocate and communicate, caregiver challenges, and loss ensuring these often-overlooked voices are heard and valued.
